On October 1st, 1985 the 7th Infantry Division was officially
designated a "Light" division - the Army's first such division.
Along with it, the division's 1st Brigade - the 9th Infantry
Regiment - also took up the designation "Light", and a new era
began for one of the oldest Infantry regiments in the Army.
For the next ten years the Manchus of the "Bayonet" division
trained hard, played hard, and deployed around the world on
short duration, intense post-cold war missions, as part of the
nation's Rapid Deployment Force, at a time when
the United States was just beginning to regain its standing as a
military power.
When we
started this website it was me and some old friends from "The
Planet" and the 7th ID days of the Manchus. At that time
it was our intention to remember and celebrate the Lightfighters
that invaded Panama, humped up Site Alpha and boozed it up at
Doc Rickett's Lab in Monterey, and to provide a way for us all
to get back in touch with each other.
But
Fort Ord was not the only home of the Manchus, and over the
years our site has been running its become quite obvious that
the Manchu spirit is alive and well all over the world! So
we welcome current and former Manchu's who served in Manchu
battalions from Korea to Vietnam to Alaska to Iraq; from members
such as Terry Brooks who served with 4/9 from 1965 to 1966 (also
a member at Manchu.org) all the way through to SPC Michael
Rowland is a current member of 4/9 Inf.
So
don't be upset if you were a Manchu slogging through the jungles
of Vietnam, or Mechanized Manchu, or one of our frozen brothers
from Fort Wainwright and our masthead doesn't specifically
recognize you and your units. You're all our brothers.
We all wear "Manchu Hair" whether it was on our M1s in Korea and
Vietman, k-pots in the 80s and 90s or PASGT today.
So no
matter where, or when, you were, or are a Manchu you are part of
Manchu history and we welcome your participation and membership.
Please take the time to join up and pass the address on to your
fellow Manchus!

Regiment and 7th ID websites like...
